Saving Private Ryan

Saving Private Ryan starts off with the landing of thousands of soldiers on Omaha beach on D-Day, June 6, 1944. This movie starts out on a specific boat where Gen. John Miller (Tom Hanks) is in command of his troops. The soldiers are tired, seasick, wet, and cold. As the troops jump off their boat into the rough waters of the English Channel to head towards the beach, they are fired at by hundreds of German rifles, machine guns, mortars, and other artillery. Many of the soldiers on the boat with Gen. Miller are shot and killed instantly. Some of the soldiers who were in the back of the boat made an attempt to survive by jumping off into the water from the back or the sides of the boat. However, this strategy failed because when they jumped off, their equipment and supplies was much too heavy and caused them to sink and eventually drown. Others are shot on their march from the water to the beach. Slowly, a small group of rangers make it past many Nazi obstacles and booby traps to a sand dune. They crouch and duck in order to hide as much as possible from the viscous German army and artillery. Capt. Miller takes charge of the small group and they decide to make their way farther up the Dog Green section of Omaha Beach. Finally, the rangers manage to blow a hole in the German barbed wire and fight their way to the top of the bluff. Then, they slowly took out German bunkers and fought off the fierce German army with many other American troops. After much intense fighting, and the loss of hundreds of lives, the U.S. Army finally took control of Omaha.
While all of this commotion is going on in Normandy, interesting discoveries are being made back in Washington, D.C. Gen. Marshall is told that three brothers of the Ryan family have been killed in combat, with the most recent one killed at Omaha Beach. Only one Ryan brother remains and is located somewhere in Normandy with the 101st Airborne Division. Gen. Marshall gives an order for U.S....
