The film is a scene of the war which took place on Omaha beach in Normandy in the frantic rescue for Private Ryan, the only remaining son of a mother who discovered that she had lost three of her sons at war. The movie has won and been nominated for a total of 62 awards including the Oscar at least 5 times. The main reason this movie has been so successful is due to its impressive touches of all its viewers with its story line of a mother who lost three sons in the war and a rescue team who dedicated their life to find Private Ryan and send him home to his mother.
Audiences can relate to the touching story line as many people lost loved ones during this horrific Second World War. The spectacular opening scene lasts a gut wrenching twenty minutes.
The opening scene shows an elderly man making his way, slowly, towards a cemetery build in the heroic memory of veterans who lost their lives during the Second World War. Firstly, a close-up of the American flag, dominates the screen for a few seconds, billowing gently in the wind. After, Spielberg gets audience’s attention with a series of medium shots, following Private Ryan walking ahead of his family approaching the burial ground. These various opening shots display Private Ryan’s sorrowful feelings about the final place of rest, with his fellow veterans and brothers. Having the war veterans’ family solemnly standing behind him, gives the audience an impression, emphasizing that he is a highly respected man. Following this there is a close-up of the thousands if not millions, pure, white, gravestones, where the audience can see the endless list of the names, the brave veterans resting, beneath the ground that they fought and lost their lives for.
The second scene can be compared to a bomb, setting off with the turbulent sea hitting the barricade as you can hear the high quality sound of the waves splashing against the boats, people shouting the countdown until they are close to shore; also the boat zooming...
