“Schindler’s List”, a true story of Oskar Schindler. The unlikeliest heroes are often the greatest, and Oskar Schindler was one of the unlikeliest of all. He was a greedy German industrialist, a womanizer, a heavy drinker, a shamelessly undevoted and adulterous husband, a war profiteer and a member of the Nazi party. But, he was also the savior of more than 1,100 Jews during the holocaust, and today more than 6,000 people enjoy life because of his efforts.
Individual Jews are casually shot in the head, families are dragged from their homes and shipped to camps, and hundreds of Jews at a time are herded into cattle carts for shipments to Auschwitz. The violence of “Schindler’s List” is the sort or violence that stays with one for a long time. It is disturbing and not only graphic but very realistic.

This film presents a horrific, stomach-wrenching image of the holocaust. Many, many people are seen being killed in one form or another. They are shot at point blank range, children are slaughtered, and many more are killed in gas chambers. Spielberg spares nothing in depicting the grim events of the holocaust, and as a result, part of the film border on being unwatchable. The violence is graphic, but it is also very realistic and necessary. By forcing us into the violence face-to-face, Spielberg makes us endure the pain, never letting us stand back from it.
The heart of this film is not all about violence. The real miracle of “Schindler’s List” is that it finds an uplifting and inspiring story in this bleak period of time.

“Schindler’s List” begins with the sight of Jewish prayer candles burning down to leave only wisps of smoke, and there can be no purer hint of the holocaust than that.
