Abstract
This paper will discuss the implementation of school resource officer for Sudden Valley High School. The discussion will provide problem-oriented policing in collaboration with the SRO; if this would be something that is viable for the community. Who should be involved in the development and implementation of this program? The type of training the SRO will receive and how it will be determined what officer would be the best fit for this position. How the SRO should interact with the students and staff. The types of things the SRO will do while in this position and the advantages and disadvantages of implementing this position at the high school.

Problem-oriented policing involves the community and their problems; involves taking the department from an “incident driven and reactive to problem oriented and proactive” as ascertained by Bennett & Hess, (2007), pg. 149. High school is the last area that the public can intervene and shift the focus of the youth into a direct path to becoming model citizens; before they become adults and life is more complex. Having a safe learning environment is vital to a students learning process of what is actually being taught to them by the schools. Media’s heightened broadcast of school violence, prior school shootings, threats of terrorist attacks, and gang violence. (Gulen, 2010). SRO serves as a liaison between “school, community, and law enforcement while teaching law related education classes, counseling students, and performing law enforcement duties” as described by Gulen, (2010).
