Selfishness in Today’s Society
Intro:
“I want a feast. I want a ball. I want a party. Give it to me, give it all to me! I want the world, I want the whole world! I want today, I want tomorrow. I want to wear a ribbon in my hair like braids, and I don’t wanna share’ em. And if I don’t get what I want I’m going to scream!â€
Unfamiliar? That was the song tantrum that Veroca Salt, very selfishly informed everyone around of what she wanted in Wily Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. And as the selfish Veroca Salt Finishes her song tantrum she is read as a bad egg, and sent down the garbage shot. Ms. Salt was, all about me, me, me, and me. She was selfish, with a blatant disregard to anyone but herself. Not only did she look like an idiot throwing this tantrum but she paid for it too. She was simply sent to the trash. What’s scary is we as Americans are beginning to develop this very same attitude toward, just about everything and everyone. We have begun to simple think of no one but ourselves, both as an American Society and individuals. These selfish acts of our society have cause childish people, and childish thoughts. We have essentially returned to both every man for himself, and animalistic actions. But, in order to know why and how, we have to start at the beginning. Where this problem started.
I believe strongly that this problem blossomed from these “Plastic Idols†people, children, adults, and teens alike have begun to idolize. People who don’t work for a penny they have, yet have the money to spend it on things like thousand dollar, or more, purses, and dogs. People like Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie, who both were sentenced to jail time, and never seen more than a week inside of a jail. These women are viewed as idols and girls all over the world try to model their selves after them. With this arise problems because, all these young girls see are women with no moral values and who don’t work for any of the things they have....
