    Riordan Manufacturing, a global plastics manufacturer, was founded in 1991 by Dr. Michael Riordan; today the company manufactures plastic beverage containers, plastic fan parts, and also produces and supplies custom plastic parts.
    The company employs 550 people between three different sites and has a desire to upgrade the Human Resources Information System, installed in 1992 and currently used by the Human Resources department, in order to integrate the existing variety of tools used today in Human Resources Information Systems and combine all the functions in to a single application.
    In order to collect the needed information for the project there are many techniques to use in order to gather the information correctly and as completely as possible, each technique is effective in its own way if performed correctly; depending on the project, some techniques are more feasible and productive than others.
    The most widely used and fairly effective technique is interviewing; according to Keyes (2003), interviewing can accomplish two purposes at the same time, first to determine the goals and objectives of each stake holder with respect to the project, and second to start a communications process that will enable the analyst to set realistic expectations for the project.
    It does take a certain amount of skill and experience with people to conduct effective interviews with the stake holders; key factors to ensure successful interviews include formulating questions appropriate to the project, person, and situation, interpreting body language, communication skills, carefully listening to the interviewee, and making transcripts for review for the purpose of follow up interviews or additional questions at a later date.
