“Crazy about you, boo”

  If only love could be as neat and perfect as those tiles.   The thick black frame that lined the white tiles of the ceiling I was staring at mesmerized me. I needed the distraction.   It had been a long few of weeks in this hospital bed and I couldn’t wait to finally get out of here. The scratches on my face and hand had healed pretty well from what I could feel, so I was ready to go. The rain against the windows had tapped me awake and reminded me of the man coming to pick me up.   I loved him so much. Every time it rained like this I flashed back to the day we became “Us”. The rain was our thing, as crazy as that might sound. I fall in love with him in the rain.
“I’ll never let it rain on you” He said to me on our third date.   That line sounded so corny so I quickly gave him the boy please glance. It was raining cats and dogs outside.   I had just stepped out of his house and was about to jog daintily to the car before my hair got wet.   A black woman doesn’t play with her weave so I knew I had to make it to his car in about 10 seconds or less or I was going to be at Yolanda’s hair salon all day waiting for an open chair.   Just as I took my foot off his top step he grabbed me and pulled me back in to hug him.   I looked up to see him smiling but before I could ask him what he was doing he then took off his coat and put it over my head.
“I told you I won’t let it rain on you.”   He said as he looked outside his door.
I was speechless which says a lot because I’m never without my biting wit.   It may have seemed like a small gesture but it was completely unexpected.   We ran to the car, actually he ran I walked fast because heels and wet ground should be avoided whenever possible. He had always opened the doors for me but in the rain without a coat on I expected him to just unlock the doors from his side.   He didn’t.   I smiled, slid in the passenger’s seat and stared out the window on my way home.   It had been...
