They Talk
      In the movie Singing In The Rain with starring Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds, and Donald O’Connor   takes us through Hollywood’s transition from Silent Films to Talkies with a comical look. Gene Kelly plays Don Lockwood and Jean Hagen plays Lina Lamont, two of Monumental Pictures favorite Silent Film stars. Don and Lina are also two of the studios forced couples in the movie. This is apparent when Don tells Lina that he would rather kiss a tarantula instead of kiss her.
    Before 1927’s release of the Jazz Singer by another studio all films were silent films, and actors up to that date used pantomime to portray their characters. Singing In The Rain portrays Don and Lina as two famous silent movie stars, just like in real life there were the likes of Charlie Chaplin, Clara Bow, Rudolph Valentino just to name a couple. These stars were taught how to use body and facial language and some of them were even taught slapstick comedy to help in portraying their characters and help the movie progress.
    After the release of the Jazz singer and the flop of Monumental Pictures newest picture the Dueling Cavalier, R.F. Simpson had to figure out a way to make the Dueling Cavalier even better. Don, Cosmo, and Kathy came up with an idea to make the Dueling Cavalier into a musical, which brought about a problem which was to dub Lina’s high Pitchy voice by Kathy Selden. Lina finds out about this and tells R.F. that she won’t share credits with her. Lina then tells R.F. that she was going to sue the studio if she had to share the credits with Kathy. Kathy was the ordered by R.F. to keep dubbing for Lina, which infuriates Kathy to the point that she wanted to quit Monumental Pictures.
    After the première of the Dueling Cavalier which was newly entitled the Dancing Cavalier, Lina decides it is time for her to do her own talking to the crowd in the theater. Lina then steps up to the Microphone and starts to talk to the audience. The audience...
