Relationships between men and women can be complex, confusing and sometimes hard to understand. Being able to understand and recognize how relationships work between men and women can be difficult sometimes. Failure to recognize these differences can become sources of disappointment, frustration, and eventually lead to the downfall in a relationship. Few people are ever able to work past some of these difficulties. Over time the value of things, relationships and emotions can change drastically. Sometimes relationships can be formed between two people and can a create significance individual growth between one or more people involved.
There is similar significance to the relationships between men and women in both the novel Kafka on the Shore and in the novel Waiting. When comparing these two novels, we notice that both of the main characters are faced with many setbacks and moral dilemmas as they begin relationships with women. Kafka and Lin both are influenced to make changes to their current lifestyle, due to the relationships that they form with others. I think that it is very important for these relationships to be included in the novels, to be able understand these characters and to relate to their situations.
The relationships that they encounter play a significant role in the decisions they choose to make throughout the novels. When comparing both novels’ plots, we discover they focus around the main character’s ability to rise above their conflicts and to try to find a different way of life. Along the way these novels challenge our basic conceptions of relationships, love and fate.
