The Simpsons
The television sitcom industry is a cut throat business where shows are created and destroyed on a daily basis. Having a long-lasting television show requires successful producers, inventive writers, and creative actors. When these combinations come together correctly the sitcom leaves a lasting impression on the audience where it sometimes becomes a part of the American pop culture. The animated television show “The Simpsons†possesses these important combinations as it has been broadcasting for nearly twenty years. Writers/Produces James L. Brooks, Sam Simon, and Matt Groening with their witty satire and actors such as Dan Castellaneta (Homer) and Nancy Cartwright (Bart) are some of the reasons this quirky show may well end up on the all time classics shelf.
Matt Groening, the creator of “The Simpsonsâ€, was first known for his “Life in Hell†cartoon strip. According to Kevin Newcombe who wrote a biography on Matt Groening, the “Life in Hell†cartoon strip currently appears in more than 250 newspapers worldwide (Newcombe). Groening is not only the creator of the sitcom, but also one of the producers and writers for the show. He helped change television history by bringing back animation to primetime with this immortal family. Nancy Basile accredits Matt Groening for the hiring of James L. Brooks and Sam Simon to the team of producers/writers for “The Simpsons†(Basile). Nancy goes onto state that James L. Brooks’s previous accomplishments include being a producer for shows such as “Taxi†and “Mary Tyler Moore†as wells as movies including “Bigâ€, “Jerry McGuireâ€, and “War of the Rosesâ€. Sam Simon was a producer for “Barney Millerâ€, “Cheersâ€, and “The Drew Carey Show†(Basile). These two producers/writers were intricate to the success of “The Simpsons†not only due to their talents but also due to their contacts in the industry.
