Marriage versus Divorce and Cohabitation - Which is Deviant?
Marriage has been an extremely important institution to many people in American society.   American’s modern society favors a functional marriage in almost every facet; however, it is not as auspicious as it may seem. Through Christian-based faith, marriage has always been a flourishing recognized establishment that has held many families together.   Until recently, divorce rates were relatively uncommon as well as cohabitation.   Divorce rates are now becoming progressively higher.   The current state of marriage in the American society has brought a significant amount of ambivalence to its meaning. Sure, Americans value marriage as an important aspect of their lives, but the traditional idea about marriage being a divine social institution has disappeared.   This four page paper argues that overall, marriage has unfortunately declined in the past few decades which many believe is a result of the rising popularity of cohabitation and single parent households.   The causes and effects of this will be discussed.
Perchance, marriage may be regarded as a social institution; a reciprocated conformity between two individuals who are devoted to maintaining a relationship that holds the idea of egalitarianism, admiration, respect, trustworthiness, and complementary support for each other for life.   There is this idea of social acceptance related to two people living together and building a life together in a marriage. People live mutually as one all the time without marriage, but for many - the social aspects are incredibly imperative. There are the governmental benefits such as filing your tax return jointly and there is the employer perks that often favor married employees over singles.
