Today I began school.   I am going to get my degree online.   I do not have to go to an actual classroom every day. I get to keep working my 40 hours a week and still maintain the whole family thing while I get my degree.   I have to take two courses every nine weeks until all my credits are completed. They break the courses up and explain in a syllabus what is learned each week. There is a Chat Room for the class to discuss and ask questions about the assignments. All the classmates and I have our own email where everyone from other classmates, to instructors, or staff can message us.   Instructors give us contact information so that we may ask them any question we may have about the assignments for the week.   All my courses are online are called a distance-learning program.   I never have to worry about being tardy again.   Every day I just sign in and check into a Forum, which is like an online classroom where my classmates, instructors, and I all meet.   We turn in our assignments and have discussions in the Main Forum.   When we meet in the Main Forum we have Threaded Discussions. This is where the class will respond to other classmates and instructors discussions.   Classmates and I aren’t online at the same time since we all live in different states and cities, or just have different lives that cannot accommodate to the classic style of college education. Like a traditional face to face learning environment.   Since we not all be in the classroom at the same time they call it an Asynchronous Communication. Each of us has an individual forum to ask any questions to the instructors. The other classmates cannot see what is being discussed. Also it is where we are given our feedback.   Letting us know how we are progressing in the class.   In the Main Forum and Chat Forum everybody can give Feedback to each other.   The instructors and classmates can see this however.   Our entire syllabus and calendar is available for us to print and keep for ourselves.
