Student Leadership
I’d like for all of you to use your creative mind for a minute and imagine that in one way or another that this is you. Alright, so you are attending a community college. You’ve completed your assessment testing, applied to as many beneficial programs as you could, and registered for your classes. You’re attending college classes now with the intention of completing your degree or certificate as soon as possible and transferring to a university or applying for immediate employment. Everyday after your classes, you rush off of the campus because you have to get to your job, or pick up your child or children from school and tend to their needs, or even get home to your significant other. As you’re rushing off the campus you notice that there is an activity occurring in the middle of the campus. You are not interested though because your intentions are to go to class and then take care of your own personal obligations, whatever they might be. You say to yourself, “How is that going to help me, I’m here to get my education and education only, plus I am very busy!†You continue this cycle never once really getting involved with campus life at all. I used to be this way until one day I joined student leadership organizations here on campus. Joining student leadership organizations at your community college is beneficial to your personal development, success, and aspects of your college-related financial situation.
For purposes of clarification I offer the following definitions:
Student leadership organizations are defined as community college student governments and/or student clubs. Personal development is defined as the act or process of improving one or more human being’s skills.
