Question 1
Discuss the benefits businesses can expert from implementation of a computer network as opposed to stand alone computers.
Introduction
There are more benefits that a business can reap by implementing a computer network as opposed to stand alone computers. Computer networking is an advanced modern technology which benefits the business in different ways.
Definition of terms
Computer
It is a device which accepts input data, process it according to programmed rules, calculates results and then stores and or outputs the results.
Networking
According to module 2 end user computing study guide, a network is a system that uses communications equipment to connect computer and their resources. Common network tools are local area net work (LAN).
Local area network
These are used to connect computers in a single room or within a building on one site. Its main feature is that, unlike wide area network (wan), no special communications hardware is necessary. Computer networks can be classified according to their geographical spread. A network confined to, say, one building with workstations which are usually micro computers distributed in different rooms, is known as a local area network (LAN). One particular type, known as a ring network can extend over a diameter of two to three miles.
Wide Area Network (wan)
Wide area network are used to connect computers on different parts of the world. They make use of telecommunication systems including satellite links. These networks extend beyond the concept of the office as a single room or a group of rooms. Brian K Williams and Stacey C. Sawyer defines wide area network (wan) as a communications network that covers a wide geographic area, such as a country or the world.
The business can derive many benefits in implementing computer networks for the following reasons:-
