Having a code of ethics written out in a document describing the system of values, integrity and company beliefs are essential to the wellness of a company’s structure and also shows all employees an acceptable form of behavior and responsibilities. This code of ethics is important in the business and the personal perspective which allows both to work towards a common goal while benefitting from doing what is right. The code of ethics being used in this paper is one from the worldwide organization known as Nike. This company’s 36   page document outlines what the company stands for, the goals they strive to meet and the standards in which all employees must follow. Nike is the world’s largest shoe dealer and aims to meet all consumer demands in the most utmost professional manner, while handling any problems within the organization using the Nike code of ethics. It is available to all employees and any consumer via the World Wide Web. This paper looks to evaluate this company’s code of ethics and also look for ways to implement this code into a common sporting goods store today.
Nike’s code of ethics has five main sections that are broken down into more definite rules and regulations. These sections are Respect, Product Safety, Staying on the Ball, What’s fair play and what’s foul play and Sportsmanship. All of these sections of the code relate to what Nike as a whole expects from every single one of their employees, no matter what kind of position a person holds within the company. Nike is a company that supplies many high schools, colleges, junior colleges and professional teams with shoes and apparel to wear throughout the season and is also one of the world’s largest shoe companies and has also been recognized as one of the world’s top ten most ethical companies (2009).
