About two years ago, I went and had a tattoo put around my ankle and I had my nose pierced. Many people have found that the best way to express their individuality is by one of the oldest and most extreme art forms known around the world. The art forms in question are not something normally seen in say a museum or gallery. These art forms have been practiced for thousands of years. Most people do not consider them art forms, but actually in most cultures they are and are considered rites of passage. These art forms are simply tattoos and body piercings. With the demand of tattoos and body piercings increasing, there is some information that everyone should know, like, the differences between homemade and professional body art, ways to care for body art, and the different age ranges of people getting body art done.
The demand for tattoos and body piercing has increased over the last hundred years, because of the thrill that young people get when they are done. The PRWeb announced in the “TattooFinder.com Announced 2008 Ink Trends,†(Dec. 30, 2008) article that states, “Tattoos have become a hot commodity in the modern age, painted all over reality television stars…†It seems that everyone from the richest celebrities to the average Joe Blow is getting tattoos, now days. The top ten tattooed body parts are the lower back, the wrist, the foot, the ankle, an armband, the back, the arms, the chest, the breast, and the neck. For females, the lower back is the most popular. The area for this tattoo is also known as a “tramp stamp.†For males, there are several different places that are popular, but the two most popular are the arms and the armband. Most men get a specific tattoo on their upper arm or one all the way around their upper arm which is an armband.
