Introduction

Riordan manufacturing owns three plants:   Hangzhou, China where plastic fan parts are made, plastic beverage containers are made in Albany Georgia, and custom plastic parts are produced in the plant at Pontiac, Michigan.   When creating a process designs for Riordan Manufacturing there are several different aspects to consider. One is the importance of creating a holistic production system that addresses the several different aspects of production. These would include   quality management, materials requirements planning, process designs, a supply chain with considerations dealing with Six Sigma accurate forecast and just- in- time manufacturing methods, lastly and a means of implementing changes.
Total Quality Management
Riordan’s main focus is being an industry leader and providing customer satisfaction.   This is accomplished by using the Sigma Six Research and development method.   This helps achieve the highest quality product while emphasizing the fastest delivery time at the lowest cost. This also allows for the determination of what the customer exactly wants while improving workflow and speed and that in turn increases revenue.
This is all based on production efficiency data, production numbers, and the workflow. Managing an overseas operation needs to be more effective by using more resources to track and mine all the relevant data necessary. This data would include receipts of the components on the trucks, tracking the molded fan blades with color pellets, trimming the excessive plastics, packing and shipping.
One of the big tenants of Sigma Six is that the production times and cycle delays have to be minimized.   This can be achieved by improving quality and speed also by combining areas of production.
