Goonies Problem Process
In the movie, the Goonies by Stephen Spielberg, the children involved in the plot came across many problems. They are a group of young children that live in a small town near the ocean, The Goondocks. This town is soon too plagued with a disastrous problem that could possibly split it to pieces.
The Problem: The underlying problem is that a new rich family recently moved into the area, and had plans to build a new Country Club Golf Course. In order to do this, the company was foreclosing on all of the houses in the Goondocks. They only had a short time to figure out a solution. The children “Goonies†wanted to stop the foreclosures and avoid having to move away at all cost so they wouldn’t be split apart. The main part of the problem is finding “One Eyed Willie’s Treasureâ€, in order to stop the foreclosures which is also the solution.
Causes: The main cause of the problem is the underlying problem. That being the pending foreclosures. This jolted the Goonies into a fury to find a solution in order to stop the processes of the construction company. When the Goonies all came over to Mikey’s (main character) house, the problem of finding the treasure was clearly defined.
Criteria: As far as intangible criteria, the Goonies tried to make each other listen, which failed for the most part. They did have what I would consider physical criteria though. In the attic of Mikey’s house, there they found a map to the spot of the treasure, and an article about a man that had previously tried to find the treasure but never returned. In the article there were two stone keys that were described and would also be needed if the treasure was to be found.
Solutions: There were really not that many choices when it came down to it for solutions. The Goonies could have just given in and done absolutely nothing. They could have just tried to find a way to raise money of funds. Or they could make it worth their while...
