The proper role of government is first and foremost to protect its citizens. This would entail protecting him from violence of all forms such as protection against criminals, protection from foreign enemies such as terrorists and those who wish to invade the country by force and cause harm to the people. The military duties of the government are extremely important due to the fact that they insure the integrity of the nation and as a result help it to thrive.

Another very important role of a good government is to respect and protect man’s rights such as those illustrated in Article 2 of the universal declaration of human rights which states that:

Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Furthermore, no distinction shall be made on the basis of the political, jurisdictional or international status of the country or territory to which a person belongs, whether it be independent, trust, non-self-governing or under any other limitation of sovereignty.
The proper role of government is to promote equality and protect citizens from those who feel they can forcefully impose their own beliefs on others.
Another role of the government is to provide civic amenities such as sanitation, healthcare, financial institutions and infrastructure that make the environment a better place for all to live in.
The government should also provide educational facilities and institutions. It is another essential role of the government as it is a profound need of any society as it makes mankind rational and intellectually enriched. Education provides the opportunity for individuals to acquire knowledge and build a life for themselves so they don’t have to depend on the government or anyone else in order to survive.
