The movie is based on a true life story. The movie is divided into different parts and each part is christened. It is based in San Francisco and is about a self employed salesman called Chris Gardner who lives with his wife Linda and son Christopher. The first part of the movie is called ‘Riding the Bus’. Chris sells a medical instrument called Bone Density Scanner (BDS). It is very difficult for him to sell the BDS as most of his clients believed that it just a gave a slightly clearer picture than an X-ray at twice the price. He approaches various doctors everyday and most of them turn him down citing various reasons as mentioned earlier and many more. Selling three scanners a month is a must for him to pay his rent, bills and miscellaneous expenses (Two scanners for rent and bills and one for miscellaneous expenses like parking ticket, etc) which he is unable to do month after month. Due to which his rent was due for about three months now and Linda was worried that landlord will ask them to move out any moment. Linda worked double shifts at a laundry trying to make the ends meet. All these concerns are causing tension between Linda and Chris. One morning on his way to work, Chris sees a guy parking a red Porsche at the roadside and walking towards the office. He asks him what he does and how he does to which he responds that he was a stock broker. Chris responds saying that its important to have a good educational background to be a stock broker to which he responds that it was all about being good with numbers and managing people. Chris decides to become one so that he can improve his social and economical standing. The second part of the movie is called ‘Being Stupid’ in which he applies for an internship at the stock broking firm called Dean Witter’s. Chris as usual leaves for his daily routine of selling the BDS and on his way he sees a notice at Dean Witter’s firm inviting people for an internship program. He wants to go inside...
