The connection between the students unrest with the Vietnam War had many thing to do with the draft that was taking place in the late 60s, with every male having to register for the selective service draft by the time they turned 18. At that age they could be drafted into the army for up to two years. Even college students was not safe from the draft, while in school the student would receive deferments until they finished with school. At this time their name would go to the top of the draft list for young men. The anti-war movement was all about young men getting drafted to fight a war that people felt did not have a threat on the United States. There way also unrest about the young men fighting in a war that they did not believe in they also had the fear to die at a very young age. The students that avoid the war knew that they would be under fire, so they used the protest to communicate with the higher up. Because of the chance of them getting sent to the war, it gave them a bigger reason to protest to put an end to the draft before it was their time to be drafted. Even the women had a hand in the protest, men believed that they was going to die by fighting in the war, women felted that they would lose the men in their lives, husband, son, or boyfriends. There was over 2 million America that fought in the Vietnam War and about 58,000 lives were lost. The war dragged on until the cost grew, also with the students protesting and the lack of support from the American people did not make matters any better.
