Violence on T.V

Whenever late night television is turned on, we often see violence. In fact, it is seen so much that many think nothing of it. This comfortable attitude towards violence may be the reason why there are mass amounts of real life violence. Many critics have blamed violence on TV for corrupting our youth. Even though TV violence has undergone much criticism, it still increases on a daily basis.

We as people, especially children, tend to follow in the footsteps of their heroes. We want to make as much money as them, and essentially be them.   When individuals see their heroes on T.V Solving their problems with guns, knives, and violence, individuals tend to tell themselves that they will never use the same tactics. As it continues however, individuals tend to resort to the ways their   “heroes” deal with problems. Sometimes this involves committing a crime or an act of violence. If “heroes” started to use more peaceful methods in solving problems, it may reduce the crime rate in our society.

In order to test to see if T.V violence is really correlated with crime rates, we should put a ban on blood and gore on prime time television for an entire year. Then, we should compare and contrast that year’s crime rate with those of previous years. Ideally, this will give us an indicator. Another way to test if real life violence correlates with factious violence is to test convicts of violent crimes. They should be asked what television shows they enjoyed, and which ones they watched as children. This would also give us and indicator of correlation between factious crime and real crime.

In conclusion, I believe that T.V crime is a factor of why Real crime is on an increase. I believe the only way to solve this is to limit the amount of violence shown on tv when children are watching. This is the only way to protect the youth of our society.
