Even though it is undefined, the movie War Games is more than just a science fiction film because it shows the attitudes of the American people and the fear they have of nuclear war and communism. The movie was written in 1981, and was released to the public in 1983 and it gave us a look into technology as it was in the 1980’s.   The movie is draws your attention to a teenager who hacks computers named David Lightman. He accidentally breaks into the computer system at the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) center in Colorado. That particular system was designed especially for running wartime simulations. Against best judgment it was somehow redesigned to be given full control of America’s nuclear arsenal. Once inside the system, David accidentally triggers a countdown towards nuclear war. War Games precisely shows us the American people’s attitude towards the Soviet Union at the end of the cold war. The American people still continue to fear the threat of nuclear war and it is still possible. Technology today makes nearly anything possible with the act combining computer and today’s weapons.   For instance, in The War on Terrorism they have taken “dumb bombs” and developed them into “smart bombs” by adding global positioning system(GPS) and also fins, which enables the original “dumb bomb” to accurately hit a designated moving target.   The movie not only provides us with entertainment, but it also depicts the way that computers define our lives and shows us how much we depend on them everyday for many different reasons.
