“First Assignmentâ€
It’s hard to remember how English comp 1 went for me only because I took it freshman year and I am now in my senior year. From what I remember, things went ok for me. I was able to write a couple of good papers and really work on my writing quality. I didn’t always write the best papers but I put my best foot forward and turned in my best. I was happy with this but at the same time it made me resent the English department as a whole. I realize now that I overreacted to it and put off finishing English comp until this quarter because of it. I plan to really put my best into this quarter and come out with a better understanding on how to write a great paper.
The one thing I would really like to work on this quarter would be verbalizing how I really feel about certain subjects. There are times when I get the idea of what I really want to write about and when I sit down to start writing, nothing happens. For some reason I can’t seem to put exactly what’s going on in my head down on paper and if I could I feel my writing would greatly improve. Another thing I would like to change from this class would be my passion for reading. I used to be an avid reader but ever since high school I’ve slowly stopped reading. I hope this class and the research project actually gives me that push I’m seeking to get back to opening up a good book and not closing it to watch T.V.
One example for me of an enjoyable research project was when I researched many different beers last summer to find out which one I really liked. I would find myself breaking down the beers to color, taste, and how well they paired with food. It was very enjoyable for me and I found myself trying at least 65 different beers. I would definitely suggest this project to anyone who enjoys a nice beer because it gives you a great story and lets you meet some interesting people.
