The book ‘the gathering’ by isobelle carmody the teaches us a number of lessons about the importance of friendship. Carmody is able to do this in such an intricate manner that every aspect of the text, the characters, themes and her own message portrayal, all become involved. This means the reader can understand the plot of the book, and will be able to clearly read the message of the importance of friendship being revealed. Other minor things, such as the title contribute to the feelings of the reader, all of which are designed by carmody to make the book exactly what it is. By using the characters to develop the readers understanding of friendship and its importance, the gathering teaches us many things about the importance of friendship, freindship is important because freinds help you when you are in need, will always stick up for you and lastly will always stick togther no matter what the consequence would be. carmody teaches us the importance of freindship hidden under the symbolistic and metaphorical plot that carmody used for the text.
the gathering teaches us many things about the importance of freindship, one lesson can be learnt about it is that when you are in trouble or in need you freinds are always going to be there for you, in good times and bad. this is shown when (pg. 64) nathaniel needs to find his symbol and he finds out where his symbol is, then during science danny odin tips over a jar of spiders so he can help nathaneil get out of class and retrive nathaniels symbol. so when they are in the front office danny creates a diversion so that anthaneil can sneak into mr. karles office. nathaniel would not be able to have done this without dannys help. it shows that even though danny could get in serious trouble for helping nathaneil out he still does it for their freindship and for the sake of the chain.
