Cannabis sativa, otherwise known as marijuana, has many aspects that affect our daily lives. Most people think of the typical loser, high school drop-out when they think of what the average cannabis smoker, or “pot-headâ€, looks like. The truth is, however, millions of people all over the world have at least tried marijuana once, if not more than once. The stereotypical image of a “pot-head†creates bias against any medical value that marijuana possesses. Cannabis is rich in history dating back for thousands of years to the Silk Roads of Asia. Cannabis has also been found to possess certain traits that have been successfully administered for thousands of years. The many medicinal aspects of marijuana have been overlooked by many Americans in the past century or so. Many laws are in place to where any user, consumer, or distributor of marijuana and any other cannabinoid will be punishable by law. In order to utilize the medicinal properties of marijuana, marijuana legislation should make it possible for medicinal and recreational use of cannabis without any legal consequences.
Cannabis cultivation dates back for centuries, and has always been the most widely used recreational drug in the world. The estimated native land of the cannabis plant is said to have been in Central Asia. The mass spread of this plant occurred due to the central location on the Silk Roads (the world’s most influential trade routes). Though, the Chinese have said to have used the hemp fibers from this plant for the practical and every day uses rather than the cultivation of the marijuana plant for the medical and recreational drug values it holds. The Chinese Taoists did use marijuana for it’s hallucinogenic properties, users were believed to be able to “communicate with the spirits†while using this drug.
