Why Fire Fighters Are Heroes

Firefighters are arguably one of America’s best heroes. Through the training that they endure to running into burning houses is by far one of the most challenging things that a person can go through.   Being a firefighter requires a lot of strength, courage, and intelligence. One day that our country will never forget is that early day on September 11, 2001.

Firefighters are brave and courageous individuals because they risk their lives by going into fires and not knowing what the outcome may be. When entering a fire it is always a life or death situation for both the firefighter, and the victims that they are trying to rescue. It has been proven that firefighters have a greater chance of having heart problems than anyone else (Firefighting Raises Heart Attack Risk - Health). This is caused by the stress that they go through, they are not in a safe environment, and have a limited amount of time to get in and get out safely.

To become a firefighter it takes a lot of training, hard work, and dedication. When applying for a job you will go through several stages. You will have a written exam that goes over problem solving, human relations, verbal reasoning, math, and judgment skills (Firefighters Oral Interviews). After you complete the 50 question exam whoever is grading the exams will take the top scores and they will move onto the oral interview. If you make it through the oral interview then you take the medical exam where they drug test you, measure your weight, blood pressure, and body temperature. Once you go through that step you will have to pass the physical exam that consists of seeing how agile and agile you are; also how much stamina you have. They do all of these things with the heavy protective clothing, breathing equipment, and the tools necessary to complete their job successfully.
